Glam Out with our 80's-inspired Rock Star Side Pony
When it comes to quirky hairstyles, the 80's definitely take the crown. Sassy and bold, looks from this iconic era were all about personal expression. Do you remember rocking a whale spout on top of your head, or reaching for the crimping irons on a daily basis? Or did you go all out with a bold perm? Today it’s all about updating retro looks by taking the volume down a touch, but keeping all of the attitude.
One vintage style that continues to impress is the rock star side ponytail. Whether you’re
out with the girls or on a date downtown, it definitely makes a statement. And best of all, it doesn’t need to look absolutely perfect to work. So with a little inspiration from our
professional stylist and volumizing help from the right products, here’s how to create your
own 80's-inspired rock star side pony in just five easy steps.
A tip before you begin: you don’t need freshly washed hair to start off, but plenty of volume always makes this look rock harder.
STEP 1: Start with damp hair and create a deep side part. To keep your hair protected,
apply TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Flat Iron Spray from mid-length.
STEP 2: Using a medium size round brush (preferably ceramic or metal), blow dry section
by section. Make sure to lift hair at the roots for maximum volume.
STEP 3: Take small sections of your hair (about 2 inches wide) and wrap around a hot
medium-size curling wand.
STEP 4: Pin each curl in place with a section clip. Now leave your hair to rest for half an
hour to cool down and set into ringlets.
STEP 5: Remove the clips and gently brush the ringlets with the paddle brush to make hair easier to pin. Pull your hair to one side and secure at the nape of your neck with bobby
pins.
If a dance floor features heavily in your plans for the night, lock down the look with a
generous misting of TRESemmé Extra Hold Hairspray. It will help to hold your side pony in place, without flattening or stiffening the hair. Now all you need is a splash of rock star
attitude and you're ready to go.
